Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang | Piano
Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang was born in 1997 into a musical family in Xiamen. After showing talent at age 3, Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang initially studied piano with his father, later making his recital debut at age 6. At age 8, he became the youngest student ever enrolled at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. By age 11, he became the youngest pianist to have a solo recital at Tokyo's Suntory Hall and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
Since age 10, Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang has studied with Hung-Kuan Chen, initially at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and later the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang and his family relocated. He was admitted by New York's Juilliard School in 2014 with full scholarship and has graduated in 2018.
The youngest pianist ever signed to a major classical label, his debut album, Niu Niu Plays Mozart (2008) was followed by Niu Niu plays Chopin—The Complete Études (2010) and Niu Niu Liszt Transcri ptions (2012). His sixth album, Niu Niu Portrait, was released in 2016. After signing with Universal Music Hong Kong in December 2017, his first album for Decca Classics (recorded in Berlin) will be released in June 2018.
Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang opened the 2014/15 season performing the Dvořák Piano Concerto with Jiří Bělohlávek and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. In March 2014, he toured with Yutaka Sado and his Super Kids Orchestra on a five-city tour of Japan's major concert halls, later returning that summer in a critically acclaimed recital tour. During August 2016, Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang completed a tour of 16 Chinese cities within 25 days. He has already performed more than a hundred concerts in various parts of the world.
Other career highlights include the 2007 Pearl Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall, performing Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No.1 conducted by his coach and mentor Leslie Howard in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. As first laureate of the Artemisia Foundation, he made his debuts in Boston's Jordan Hall and Yale University's Sprague Hall in 2012. In 2007, his performance in the CCTV Ministry of Culture Spring Festival Gala was televised nationwide.
In 2017, Niu Niu Zhang Shengliang was invited to perform for the presidents of China, Russia, India, Brazil, and South Africa during the BRICS summit evening gala. He is currently planning a world concert tour (including China and Japan) in 2018/2019.
Taeguk Mun | Cello
Born in 1994, Taeguk Mun began playing the cello at the age of four. He first started studying cello with Young Rim Yang in Korea. He moved to New York in 2007, and attended the Juilliard School Pre-College Division as a full scholarship student of Minhye Clara Kim.
He has been the first prize winner of various competitions, such as 2014 Pablo Casals International Cello Competition, the Third Andre Navarra International Cello Competition, the International Competition for Young People in Oldenburg, Germany, and the Grand Prize winner of the National SungJung Music Competition in Korea. He was a prize winner at the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition, the 2010 Irving M. Klein International String Competition, and the 6th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.
Starting with Kumho Prodigy Concert in 2004 and his solo recital at Gyeonggi Arts Center in 2006, Taeguk Mun has played solo performances in Korea, France, Germany, and the United States, including the Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Juilliard School in New York. He played with various orchestras around the world including Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio. In 2014, Taeguk Mun not only was invited to play at Busan International Film Festival but also has been selected to perform at the Young Artist Lunch Concert Series in the Louvre Museum in France. Recently, Taeguk Mun was invited to Budapest Spring Festival in Hungary to play solo and to 2015 Orchestra Festival in Korea to perform with Korean Symphony Orchestra. Taeguk Mun is supported by SungJung Cultural Foundation, Hwangjin Scholarship Committee and was selected as a “G.rium Artist” by SK Chemicals. He was a resident musician at the Kumho Art Hall in 2017, in which he has performed five concerts during that year. Taeguk is the first recipient of Janos Starker Award, by which he receives US-based performance opportunities and scholarships. He is also a member of Ensemble Ditto since 2017.
After graduating Juilliard School Pre-College Division, he studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston with a full scholarship, cellist Laurence Lesser, and is currently studying at Ralph Kirshbaum at the University of Southern California.
Taeguk Mun plays the cello made by Giovanni Grancino in 1697 from Milan, generously on loan from Samsung Cultural Foundation of Korea.
