Yoo Jin Jang ㅣ Violin
Violinist Yoo Jin Jang, praised for her “fiery virtuosity” and sensitive interpretation, is the most recent 1st prize winner of the 2016 Sendai International Music Competition.
She has been performing with top Korean orchestras such as the KBS Symphony Orchestra and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra since the age of 9. An active international soloist, Yoo Jin has appeared with Ivan Fischer's Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Bulgaria National Radio Symphony Orchestra under Emil Tabakov, the Sofia Philharmonia Orchestra under Ljubka Biagioni, the Erato Ensemble with Sholomo Mintz, the Exremadura Orchestra led by Jesus Amigo, and the Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo. Yoo Jin's past seasons included the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert in Chicago, the Munetsugu Competition Gala Concerts in Tokyo and Nagoya, a recital at Jordan Hall in Boston, and an appearance with the Nagoya Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra. Her past season featured her with the Caramoor Rising Stars, Ravinia Steans Institute on Tour, a recital at the infamous Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, another recital in Jordon Hall in Boston, soloist with the NEC Philharmonia with conductor Josh Weilerstein, and her first CD release titled “Korean Young Musicians” under KBS (Korean Broadcast System) label, Aulos media & KBS Classic FM.
A seasoned competition winner, Yoo Jin has won all of the top youth competitions in Korea including the prestigious Ewha Kyunghyang Competition. In 2013, she won the 4th International Munetsugu Violin Competition in Japan for which she was awarded the loan of the 1697 'Rainville' Stradivari violin. Also, YooJin was awarded Fifth Place and the special prize of “Best sonata other than Beethoven” at the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, the most prestigious competition in the United States. Yoo Jin was the grand prix winner at the Tchaikovsky Homeland International Competition for Young Musicians and was also awarded Best Performance of a Commissioned Work. She has placed at the Yehudi Menuhin Competition, the Yfrah-Neaman International Violin Competition, and the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, where she won the Audience Prize and Best Performance of the New Zealand Commission Work. Yoo Jin has also been awarded many prestigious international prizes including the Second Daewon Music Award, Ishikawa Music Academy I.M.A Award and the Lotos Mozart Prize.
Also a sought after chamber musician, Yoojin founded The Kallaci String Quartet with Hyuk-ju Kwan, Hanna Lee, and Joon-Ho Shim. In 2012, The Kallaci String Quartet made its international debut at the Kumho Art Hall in Seoul, Korea and the Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music. Yoo Jin has been recognized for her creative work as a chamber musician—in 2011 she won the Borromeo String Quartet Guest Artist Award and in 2009 was awarded the Schloss Weikersheim Scholarship as part of the London String Quartet Competition. Yoo Jin has also participated in the Marlboro and Ravinia Festivals, where she worked with artists such as Menahem Pressler, Dénes Várjon, and Peter Wiley.
Yoo Jin holds a Bachelor of Music from The Korean National University of Arts, where she studied under Nam Yun Kim, and a Master of Music, Graduate Diploma, and Artist Diploma from New England Conservatory, where she studied with Miriam Fried. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at New England Conservatory.
Kae Ozawa ㅣ Piano
Kae Ozawa was born in 1983 in Japan. Due to her father's job, she spent her young ages until high school in the United States of America. After she moved back to Japan, she went to Kikuzato High School (musical department), Tokyo University of Arts, and finished the master degree at the university in 2009. She now works as an accompanist in the same university.
She has won Second Prize in Melbourne Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition (piano trio), Third Prize in 25th Valsesia Musica International Piano Competition, Semifinalist at 58th Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition, and Southern Missouri International Piano Competition. And also she is the First Prize winner of Gyula Kiss International Competition, Petrov International Competition, Machida Competition, and JPTA Competition.
Kae Ozawa has studied under Prof. Kenji Watanabe, Prof. Mitsuko Oguchi, Mr. Julian Dawson, Prof. Hiroaki Kumamoto, Ms. Miyoko Yamane Goldberg, Prof. Shuku Iwasaki, Prof. Akira Wakabayashi, and Prof. Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. Also master classes by Prof. Joaquin Acchucarro, Prof. Dang Thai Son, Prof. Willem Brons, and Prof. Menahem Pressler.
