Highly praised Korean violinist Dami Kim, recipient of numbers of awards from many world's prestigious international competitions, is currently expanding her career.
The recipient of a number of awards and honors, Kim has won the first prize in 2012 Hannover Joseph Joachim International Competition in Germany, where she received G.B. Guadagnini and a CD recording contract with Naxos as a part of the prize. She is a Laureate of both 2014 Indianapolis Violin Competition in the United States where she received 'Best Performance of Classical Concerto' and 'Best Performance of Beethoven Sonata' Prizes, and a leaureate of 2012 Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Belgium. She received 2nd prize (No 1st prize awarded) from 2010 53rd Premio Paganini Competition in Italy, where she was also given the ‘Barbieri Special prize' for the best interpretation of Paganini Capricci, and the ‘Ruminelli Special prize' to the best placed finalist. She has won the First prize in 2011 3rd Munetsugu Angel Violin International Competition in Japan, where she has acquired a chance to use the Stradivarious “Rainville” violin for 2 years. She also received several prizes in various competitions throughout the nationwide including, 2010 Sendai International Competition in Japan, 2009 Michael Hill Violin International Competition in New Zealand, and the Second prize in 2006 Johansen International Competition in U.S.A., and 2004 Greenfield Philadelphia Orchestra Competition.
Kim gave recitals and has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras throughout Europe, America, and Asia, including her recent successful Debut Recital in 2015 Swiss Lucerne Festival, and a performance with NDR Philharmonie in Hannover with Maestro Manze. The various orchestras include Philadelphia Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Macau Orchestra, Orchestra Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, National Orchestra of Belgium, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Seoul Phil Orchestra, KBS Orchestra, Wuhan Phil Orchestra, Macau Orchestra, Sendai Phil Orchestra, the Thailand Royal Phil Orchestra and many others throughout the world.
Kim has been showing a great interest towards chamber music as well, that she has participated regularly in various music festivals, including her recent Debut, as a soloist, with Kremerata Baltica in 2015 Kronberg Music Festival. Other chamber music festivals include Ravinia festival, Yellow barn festival, Taos festival, among others. She has collaborated with many renowned artists including Frans Helmerson, Shlomo Mintz, Donald Weilerstein, Itamar Golan. As a part of the project of 2014 Kronberg Chamber Music Connects the World, Kim collaborated with Gidon Kremer, Steven Isserlis, Christian Tetzlaff.
Kim began studying the violin at age five in Korea, and entered the Curtis Institute of Music in the United States in 2002 and graduated in 2007, where she gained the Diploma and studied with violinist Aaron Rosand. Kim held the Mark and Esther Kramer Fellowship as her meritbased full scholarship at Curtis. In 2010 and 2012 and 2013, she gained the Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Graduate Diploma from New England Conservatory, where she studied with a renowned violinist Miriam Fried, and also won the Concerto Competition and performed with NEC Symphony Orchestra in 2009. She studied with Mihaela Martin in Kronberg Academy in Germany since 2013, and Kim is currently studying (from September 2016), her D.M.A. (Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance) program in Stony Brook University in the United States. Kim is playing “Dominicus Montagnana” from Kumho Asiana Culture Foundation.
